FAMILY TREK IN BOUGUEMEZ VALLEY FOR 5 DAYS

Every age group can find something fascinating in the High Atlas Mountains! The valley of Ait Bouguemez, located 5 hours from Marrakesh in the heart of Berber country, offers a stunningly maintained environment and lovely interactions.

This High Atlas Mountain vacation, which is appropriate for families with young children, offers lovely walks in the extraordinary scenery of this mountain oasis as well as an immersion in the daily life of the Berber tribes.

OVERVIEW:

During this 5-day trek in Morocco, you stay in a Mountain hut as well as in local resident’s homes. The daily trips, which are made to delight both kids and adults, lead you on the hunt for dinosaurs, reveal a fortified loft overlooking the valley, and introduce you to locals.

True immersion in the daily routine and culture of the Berber communities of the High Atlas Mountains, this 5-day family trek will allow you to experience nature's rhythms at its own pace and leave a lasting impression on every member of your "tribe"..

ITINERARY

Day 1: Marrakech – Demnate – Iminifri – Ait Boulli – Bougmez

On the road from Marrakech to Demnate, we'll stop at Imi N'Ifri, where we'll have a brief stroll and see the naturally created bridge (known in Berber language as ‘the Grotto's Mouth’). Your guide will tell you all about this tale, which has elements of the Romeo and Julia myth.

We'll stop again nearby the community of IOUARIDENE to view some dinosaur footprints. Before reaching ‘The Happy Valley ‘of Ait Bouguemez, we drive on a hilly route towards the red valley of Ait Boulli. In the afternoon, after a brief ascent of the Arous valley, where we will learn about the daily lives of the Berbers of the Atlas Mountains, we will begin our trip through this lovely valley.

Day 2: Arous Valley, ‘The Happy Valley of Ait Bouguemez ‘A stay in a lodgingl that is owned by a resident of the village of Rbat

Today, we will explore the Ait Bouguemez Valley, which features charming villages with traditional architecture, fields covered with apple and walnut trees, and meet welcoming residents.

Approx. 4 hour trek

Accommodation: in a local resident’s home in the village of Rbat

Meals: Dinner and breakfast

 

Day 3: Ait Imi – The mountain of Adazen – The valley of Ait Hkem – Zaouiat Oualmzi

The dinosaur footprints in the centre of the Ibaklioun village will be the next stop on our walk. Following a track through a Juniper Forest, we will next climb the Adazen Mountain Ridge, where we can take in the stunning views of the nearby mountains (Azouri, Igoudamen). As we descend, we'll take a broad path to the village of Ifren, where we'll spend the night in a local Zaouiat Oualmzi resident's hut.

Day 4: Zaouiat Oualmzi – Descent of the Ait Bougmez valley – Timit

During this last day of hiking in the Ait Bouguemez valley, we’ll discover its natural heritage and its architectural and cultural wealth; as we pass through many villages there is ample opportunity to meet the villagers, see them working their fields, and the women doing laundry by the river … The houses are built of rammed earth and blend in with the beautiful landscapes of the Atlas Mountains. We will then climb the old Marabout of Sidi Moussa an old granary built on top of a Hill  and take a moment to appreciate the astonishing view of the valley. Your guide will expand on the Marabout of Sidi Moussa

Day 5: Ait Bougmez valley – Azilal – Ouzoud waterfalls – Marrakech

After breakfast, we’ll drive on a different route to Azilal.  We will visit the Ouzoud Waterfalls; a 110m high, three level waterfall, on Wadi Ouzoud, at 1,060m altitude in the Middle of the Moroccan Atlas. Around the waterfalls you notice a subtropical vegetation and maybe you will spot a Berber monkey (macaques)
